Product description

An amazing plate of two types of  trilobite, Dicranurus monstrosus and Crotolacephalus gibba, dating from the Devonian Period, 360 million years old.

They were discovered in Alnif, Morocco.
The preservation of these trilobites is superb.
It takes many hours of work to prepare these spiny trilobites from the surrounding matrix, using air abrasion techniques to develop the fragile spines.

It is thought that Dicranus used its spines as a type of defense from predators.
Crotolacephalus displays the typical dagger-like terminations to its pleura.

Trilobites ("three-lobes") are extinct arthropods that form the class Trilobita. They appeared in the Middle Cambrian epoch and flourished throughout the lower Paleozoic era before beginning a drawn-out decline to extinction when, during the Late Devonian extinction, all trilobite orders, with the sole exception of Proetida, died out.
The last of the trilobites disappeared in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian about 250 million years ago

An incredible trilobite plate that makes a wonderful display piece, or as an addition to a collection.

Not to be missed
